Countdown to Ecstasy (50th Anniversary Edition LP)
Steely Dan is back on vinyl where they belong! This 50th Anniversary Edition of their classic Countdown to Ecstasy on 33 1/3 RPM from Geffen/UMe, is part of a year-long reissue program featuring the band’s first seven records, initially released between 1972 and 1980.
Steely Dan’s songwriter/musicians Walter Becker and Donald Fagan were “anti-rock & roll,” defying all it’s conventions with their sly lyrics and jazz/R&B leanings. Their sprawling 1973 sophomore LP Countdown to Ecstasy was a hit with the critics, but failed to generate a hit single, even though the reluctant band supported it with a tour — their last. The gold-selling album includes the tracks “Bodhisattva,” “My Old School,” “Show Biz Kids” and much more.
UMe’s standard 180-gram version of Countdown to Ecstasy — pressed at Precision Record Pressing — features lacquers cut by Alex Abrash at his renowned AA Mastering studio from high-resolution digital files of Bernie Grundman’s new masters, which were cut from the original analog tape.
